Kidz Corner Miramar staff and management will ensure that while the children are in their care they will ensure that they are protected from any harmful effects of exposure to the sun's ultra violet rays. (Education (Early Childhood Services) Regulations 2008 Regulation 45 Premises and facilities standard: general (1)(a)(ii), (2). Regulation 46 Health and safety practices standard: general (1)(a),(2).


  1. Parents/guardians should ensure that children have sunscreen on when they arrive at the centre each day.
  2. Centre staff will ensure that children have adequate protection from the sun's ultra violet rays throughout the day (Criteria PF1).
  3. Management will ensure that the outdoor play areas have adequate shaded areas for children and staff.
  4. Children must have their own named sunhat that ensures adequate protection for their face and neck.
  5. The centre will provide SPF30 sunscreen and spare sun hats.
  6. All children will be expected to wear named protective clothing, sunhats and sunscreen when outdoors during the daylight saving period (October to March).
  7. If children are sensitive to, or have an allergy to standard children's sunscreen such as Nivea or Cancer Society sunscreen then an alternative sunscreen should be provided from home (please ensure it is named).
  8. Staff will support the children in developing an awareness of the importance of wearing protective clothing, hats and sunscreen when outside.


  1. Sunscreen is to be applied to children prior to their arrival at the centre.
  2. Staff will apply sunscreen at lunch and afternoon tea time.
  3. Children's hands will be stamped or marked to identify that sun block has been applied.
  4. Centre sun shades will be up during the hours of 9 am and 3 pm (this is weather dependent.)
  5. Parents will be reminded of the centre's Sun Safety Policy through newsletters and personal contact.
